Exclusive Q&A with Pretty Little Liars’ Troian Bellisario

Troian Bellisario plays driven perfectionist Spencer Hastings on Pretty Little Liars, and J-14 got the exclusive scoop from Troian on some hot new love drama, her best guy advice, and her surprising style secret! Pretty Little Liars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC Family.

J-14: On the show, Spencer is very preppy and studious. Are you at all like her in real life?
Troian: When I was growing up, I was a perfectionist. I was the valedictorian of my class in high school, and grades meant everything to me. The difference between Spencer and I is that I’ve just had time to re-prioritize and understand what’s really important. I definitely should have relaxed a little bit when I was in school.

J-14: Do you share the same sense of style?
Troian: My fashion is a little more like Aria’s [Lucy Hale’s PLL character], but generally, I really don’t like shopping. I mostly wear hand-me-downs from my mom or my friends. Everything I wear has holes in it. But I do love Ralph Lauren and anything really classic. I don’t own anything that doesn’t have holes in it; it’s kind of a problem.

J-14: What can we expect this season with Spencer and Toby’s relationship?
Troian: They’re kind of like Rosewood’s Bonnie and Clyde at this point, so it becomes quite a forbidden thing because you don’t know if they’re good for each other. His parents have a lot to say about his relationship with me and mine about him, so it’s pretty hard. I’ll leave it up to the fans to check out, but somebody is coming back that’s pretty awesome…

TeenTelevision Interview With Lucy Hale

Hey little liars!

Here is an interview with Lucy Hale (Aria Montgomery) from TeenTelevision.com!

TeenTelevision: “Liars” is starting up in the summer. Do you have any summer plans this year?

Lucy Hale: I’m going to Rome in June. My best friend is getting married. So I’m really excited. Well, I literally am going to be there for a day and a half because I have to get back to work. But they gave me two days off. So I’m going to go on a weekend and do that. And we’re doing a lot of traveling this summer. Like New York and Toronto. I love travelling and I don’t get to do it a lot.

TeenTelevision: Go ahead and tell us all the major things that happen this season (yeah, right).

Lucy Hale: I’ll share what I can. We pick up where we left off in the finale. We’re trying to track down Ian’s body and we don’t know if he’s really dead. If he is “A”, did he kill Alison? If he’s not, who is “A”? Did “A” kill Ian? All these different questions. But as far as Aria’s storyline, she’s still with Mr. Fitz and he’s no longer a teacher at the school. He’s teaching at a college now. And so they can legally date in Pennsylvania. They actually went and figured out that it is legal in Pennsylvania when she’s sixteen/seventeen, to date an older man. So she’s doing that.

TeenTelevision: Yay!

Lucy Hale: Ah, but there’s a love triangle. There’s someone else that catches Aria’s eye who is more age appropriate, I guess you could say. And she’s just dealing with her brother. What we’re filming now is Aria’s little brother is rebelling a lot in a major way and that’s another thing to add to the whole mixture of her crazy life.

TeenTelevision: So, anything more on this love triangle?

Lucy Hale: It’s very interesting. It makes her realize how much she really is risking by being with Ezra. The two guys are completely different. Like couldn’t be more opposite. So I don’t know at this point, which guy she’s going to choose. I don’t know. Noel is not in the love triangle but he is involved in the second season. That’s all I can say.

TeenTelevision: Are you personally more attracted to an older guy or age appropriate guy?

Lucy Hale: I’ve dated both. I don’t discriminate on anything, you know. All options.

TeenTelevision: Troian and Shay were saying how you girls are all close friends. So between the four of you, who gives the best advice?

Lucy Hale: Probably Troian. Troian is very intelligent and she grew up in this business with her dad being who he is (producer Donald Bellasario). And she’s just seen it all. And she’s so grounded. She is like the older sister. She’s just very smart. Not that the other girls aren’t. She’s wise like beyond her years wise. Like old soul to the max. She’s really cool. Really funny, too. I don’t think people realize she is so funny.

TeenTelevision: Before the show is over finally, what do you wish the show runners would let Aria do that she never gets to do that you think would be fun for you as an actress?

Lucy Hale: In season two they actually are showing more of her lighter side. I feel like Aria’s very sarcastic. And they’re giving her more lines like that. And I just want to see them all just go do something fun without “A”, drama free. Yeah, just like an episode of nothing goes wrong. I know that’s why the show is successful is because everything goes wrong, but I want to see them travel. There are talks of maybe New York for third season for an episode. Whether that happens, I don’t know. But that would be fun.

TeenTelevision: What’s been your favorite off-screen bonding moment with you co-stars?

Lucy Hale: We went to Toronto in February. I mean nothing really special happened but we all just went out one night and had dinner. It was just really fun. And it just made me realize I work with some pretty cool girls. We have a good time all the time, though.

Shay and Troian: TeenTelevision.com Interview

Hey little liars!

Here is an interview with Shay (Emily Fields) and Troian (Spencer Hastings) from TeenTelevision.com!

TeenTelevision: Tell us what you can tell us without getting in trouble with your bosses. We know we pick up with where last season left off and we’re wondering about Ian’s fate. What else?

Shay:  Yes.  I guess the big thing is just finding out what really happened to Ian. Is it he dead? Is he alive? And, if so, how did he manage that?

TeenTelevision: We know a therapist is coming into the mix so are the girls going to maybe clash over what to tell he and maybe to reveal anything to her?

Troian: Definitely. I think when you’ve all shared a traumatic experience but you all have very different opinions on where you stand, how far you are into wanting to let it go or wanting to rehash it? Doing something like therapy together is a really stifling experience. And especially because the girls have so much to lose and so many secrets with each other. They have to work through that. Or decide if they’re going to let that go.

TeenTelevision: What sort of new things are happening for each of your characters?

Shay:  I would say that Emily is moving. She’s packing up. I think, with her, it’s always been divide and conquer. She’s kind of wanting to separate the girls and give them alone time to kind of mess with them individually. So they don’t have their group of girls to fall back on for a little bit. So, where is she going? Is it Texas? I don’t know. I do know but I can’t say but she’ll be connected even if she moves. “A” still wants her in the game.

TeenTelevision: Troian, Spencer was in a car accident with her sister. What’s up with that?

Troian: Spencer wasn’t really hurt and she was more concerned about her sister being pregnant. So when you come back, since it is literally moments later and we’ve seen my brother-in-law try to kill me, the next time I see my sister it’s obviously, ‘Is the baby okay? How do I tell you that your husband that you think is missing actually is a serial killer and I would rather he dead?’ You know it’s a really fun, family episode (we laugh).

TeenTelevision: As you guys mature and the audience mature as the show goes on, is the show going to reflect that? Is it going to get even more edgy as time goes by?

Troian: I certainly hope so.

Shay:  I think so. We’ve always pushed it a little bit. Pushed a little bit. It’s a lot more than what anybody really expected. They’re always like, ‘Oh my gosh, but you guys are on ABC Family. You’re doing this, this, and that’.  I think we’ve even pushed it a little bit more for season two. And I think for season three and hopefully continuing, it will continue to push it as our audience matures and as the girls do.

TeenTelevision: What is it like off set when you guys are not filming? Do you ever pull pranks on each other? I think I hear Ashley is the real prankster.

Shay:  We actually do hang out on set. We’re hanging out after this. To be honest, we are all really close friends. I think as far as prankster goes, jokester, whatever you want to call it, I think that would kind of be Ashley. She likes to make things fun on set. So she’s always joking around. And we’re always like, ‘What’s Ashley up to?’

TeenTelevision: Example?

Shay: Well, recently we were in the hair and makeup room and she pretended that our lovely hair lady burnt her. And so she was freaking out. I was there and I was freaking out. I’m like, ‘Oh, my gosh. Oh my, gosh. Ashley are you okay?’ And then she looks up and she’s like, ‘Ha, ha’. So, yes. Ashley is definitely the prankster when it comes to us four girls.

TeenTelevision: How is Shay’s love life going to develop?

Shay:  At the beginning, obviously, Emily was discovering who she was. And figuring that part out. And now that she’s become a lot more aware of what she likes and just who she is, she’s just kind of wanting to test the water out with these wonderful different relationships that she has. And unfortunately Maya got sent away. But now Paige and Samara are in the picture. But then again with Emily moving I don’t know if she really wants to start anything up that’s going to be serious that she’ll have to break again.
